Nominator's project description

W.E. Pickett is one of the pioneers of electronic-structure calculations based on the density-functional formalism, now a bedrock of condensed-matter theory. Warren Pickett combines expertise in development of computational tools with a broad, sound understanding of physical and chemical phenomena. He has superb skills in communicating with experts from different branches of science. For innumerable emerging materials, such as high-temperature superconductors and colossal magnetoresistance materials, he and his collaborator have provided the first understanding of their electronic structure.
