Nominator's project description

Professor Knio is known for his outstanding contributions to the field of Scientific Computing, characterized by highly inventive ideas and their solid implementation. His approach to uncertainty prediction in Computational Fluid Dynamics via polynomial chaos expansions is an excellent example for how his research stimulates major advances in the respective areas of application. During his visits to Germany under the Bessel Prize umbrella it is planned to transfer this latter technology to computational meteorology, where issues of parameter uncertainty are of extreme importance.
