Nominator's project description

Prof. Dr. John A. Mydosh is an internationally recognized expert in spin glasses, intermetallic compounds and correlated electron systems, which are highly topical areas of condensed matter physics. His current interests focus on heavy fermion systems with elements of the actinide group, their thermodynamic and transport properties under pressure and high magnetic fields (both pulsed and static). Unconventional superconductivity, magnetic structures and ordering phenomena ("hidden order") in the vicinity of a quantum critical point are additional topics of his remarkable scientific achievements. He maintains many collaborations with research groups and institutes world wide one of which is the Max-Planck-Institute for Chemical Physics of Solids in Dresden where he plans to continue his work on weak itinerant electron magnetism within several projects of the Institute.
