Nominator's project description
| Dr. Häussermann is well known internationally not only for exploring and describing the marine life of Chilean Patagonia, but also for her enthusiasm to protect this unique natural heritage. Her work ranges from the discovery of cold-water coral in Chilean fjords over spatial analyses to support decisions for marine conservation to the study of the largest ever recorded mass mortality of large whales. She successfully built up a scientific field station in Chilean Patagonia and published a field guide for the Patagonian marine life. During her stay in Germany, she will elaborate an up-to-date biogeographical analysis, which includes data from her expeditions to the Patagonian coasts. |
