Nominator's project description
| Professor Forest is a leading specialist in the physics of hot plasmas, with special emphasis on the generation of currents and magnetic fields. He worked on this subject in Nuclear Fusion research, where he introduced a method to infer the internal current distribution in a magnetically confined fusion plasma. He also made important contributions in the field of heating and current drive by RF waves. More recently, he established a very successful experiment to mimic the self-generation of the Earth's magnetic field by the dynamo effect. During his stay in Germany, Professor Forest works on the analysis of the interplay between the internal current distribution and the plasma confinement properties in the ASDEX Upgrade tokamak, Germany's largest Nuclear Fusion experiment. |
