Nominator's project description

Professor Benjamin Wandelt is a theoretical astrophysicist interested in the early evolution of the Universe. He has made particularly creative use of large computers to develop new and more accurate techniques for reading the physical properties of the Universe out of the observed properties of its large-scale structure, in particular from the structure observed in the cosmic microwave background radiation. This structure is an echo of the creation process itself. While in Germany, Professor Wandelt will work with his hosts at the Max Planck Institute for Astrophysics to help prepare for analysis of data from the European Space Agency's Planck satellite, which will start its observations of the microwave background in late 2008.
