Nominator's project description
| Grigory Mikhalkin is an exceptional mathematician who has built novel and striking bridges between real algebraic geometry, discrete geometry, topology, and complex analysis. He has pioneered the new discipline of tropical geometry which provides far-reaching combinatorial methods to handle algebraic geometric problems, such as counting the number of curves with given properties. In his research stay at TU Berlin, Grigory Mikhalkin intends to advance the theory of higher-dimensional tropical curves at the interface of discrete and algebraic geometry. |
