Nominator's project description
| Prof. Rüdiger Wehner is a creative behavioral physiologist and neurobiologist with an excellent international reputation. His studies on the amazing navigational performances of the desert ant Cataglyphis integrate mechanisms of polarized light navigation, path integration and landmark orientation with ecological and evolutionary perspectives. Recent work on ontogenetic changes in visual integration centers of the ant brain has triggered the collaborative project with Prof. Wolfgang Rössler (Univ. of Würzburg) on synaptic plasticity underlying changes in visual behavior.
