Nominator's project description

Professor Lydéric Bocquet is Professor at the University of Lyon and head of the research group ''Liquids at Interfaces''. He works in the domain where fluid dynamics connects to surface science and is interested in understanding and optimizing surface phenomena at the molecular level. His recent work involves surfaces with very low surface friction, including 'superhydrophobic' coatings that exhibit the Lotus effect. He is interested in the science hidden in everyday life phenomena, like the physics of stone-skipping or the physics behind cooking or ironing. During his stay at the Technische Universität München, he will explore biophysical phenomena far from equilibrium, in particular biolocomotion and biosensing.
