Nominator's project description
| Professor David Milstein, Weizmann Institute, Rehovot, Israel.
Professor David Milstein is one of the leading organometallic chemists worldwide. He has made pioneering contributions to many areas of this field of research. These include catalytic C-H activations, carbon-carbon cleavage and coupling reactions, as well as catalytic alkene hydroamination by N-H activation. Recently he discovered an unprecedented reaction, in which alcohols are coupled with amines to form amides under H2 liberation and devised a novel approach towards water splitting, by consecutive thermal liberation of H2 and light-induced generation of dioxygen.
Professor Milstein is hosted by Professor Lutz H. Gade and Professor Peter Hofmann at the University of Heidelberg. While based at Heidelberg University, Professor Milstein will collaborate with his hosts in the development of novel catalysts and the elucidation of their detailed reaction mechanisms.
