Nominator's project description

Professor Craig Manning is a pioneer in the study of fluids occurring in the Earth's interior. He has designed new experimental methods for measuring the solubility of minerals in fluids at high pressures and temperatures which allowed him to gain important insights into transport processes occurring in the Earth's deep crust and mantle. He also established new thermodynamic models of fluids. During his stay in Bayreuth, he will complement his previous work by spectroscopic studies of the structure and speciation of fluids under extreme conditions.
