Nominator's project description
Professor Bowers is a world leader in both theoretical and experimental aspects of ion chemistry and mass spectrometry. In recent years, he has focused on the determination of the molecular basis for amyloid diseases including Alzheimer's disease and Diabetes Type II. In his work in Berlin, he will explore fundamental issues related to the role of chirality in protein folding and the factors controlling ß-sheet formation in the oligomerization cascade leading to amyloid plaques. |
