Nominator's project description

Professor Majumdar is well known internationally for her research in the field of material science with a focus on laser surface processing. She made fundamental contributions to a profound understanding of the metallurgy of rapid solidification of metals under the specific heat input of a laser source. Beyond that she also correlated the resulting microstructure with the properties with respect to potential applications. During her stay in Germany she intends to work on multifunctional compositionally graded materials by direct laser cladding for high performance applications.
