Nominator's project description

Professor Veilleux is an international expert in observational extragalactic astrophysics. He has been leading unique imaging and spectroscopic studies of star forming, active and infrared selected galaxies in the local universe, and their evolutionary connections. These provide classical references for the study of galaxy evolution at low and high redshift. His spectroscopic classification of emission line galaxies is one of the key tools of extragalactic astronomy. In Germany, Professor Veilleux will work with area scientists on investigations of luminous galaxy mergers and active galactic nuclei, using ground-based and space observatories over the entire optical and infrared wavelength range.
