Nominator's project description
| Professor Lewis is one of the world's most distinguished historians of early China. He possesses an awe-inspiring command of the entire spectrum of pertinent textual sources, including recently excavated manuscripts that are notoriously difficult to decipher and to interpret. His wide-ranging, methodologically innovative, and meticulously documented writings define the highest standard for Sinological scholarship today. In Germany, Professor Lewis will concentrate on the study of emotions, which in ancient China were integrated into an all-encompassing cosmology. |
