Nominator's project description
Professor Raymond Dean Astumian from the University of Maine, USA Professor Astumian is internationally well known for his outstanding research in non-equilibrium thermodynamics. He made very important contributions to the theory of Brownian motors and the influence of thermal noise on biological systems. Professor Astumian showed convincingly how biological nano-machines work with high precision under strongly fluctuating environments. During his stay in Germany, he intends to test fluctuation theorems in various biologically inspired experiments. Professor Astumian is hosted by Professor Hermann Gaub, Professor Dieter Braun and Dr. Kay Gottschalk at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich. |
