Nominator's project description

"The L. Meitner-A. v. Humboldt Research Award is given to Prof. Gershon Kurizki in recognition of his exceptional achievements over the years in the fields of quantum optics and theoretical quantum physics at large. His many ground-breaking contributions are particularly acclaimed in the theory of quantum open systems and the control of their decoherence and thermodynamics on non-Markovian time scales. In this context his pioneering investigations of the Zeno and anti-Zeno effects in quantum open systems represent a fundamental discovery of great importance. In general, the works of Prof. Kurizki have opened new horizons in our understanding of quantum measurements and decoherence, which are vital links between the quantum and classical pictures of the world."
