Nominator's project description

Professor Maruoka is a leading researcher in the field of organic chemistry and has made substantial contributions to organic synthesis by developing powerful and widely applied catalysis technology. His main contributions include chiral phase-transfer-catalysts that are used both in academia and for the industrial manufacture of pharmaceuticals. In recent years he has contributed innovatively designed organocatalysts that are typically highly active and selective. In Germany, Professor Maruoka focuses his studies on novel approaches to organocatalysis.
