Nominator's project description

Professor Maroncelli is a leading expert on solvation of chemical species in molecular liquids. Recently his work has focused on dynamics in Ionic Liquids (ILs). Using both femtosecond (fs) experiments and computer simulations, he found a remarkably dispersive diffusive component to solvation which reflects small-amplitude translational motion of ions. Similar effects have been observed by others for solvation of DNA double helices. During his stay in Germany, the solvation of new molecular probes will be studied in both Ionic Liquids and DNA with broadband fluorescence at 80 femtosecond time resolution.
