Nominator's project description
Professor Ebrey is an international authority on Chinese history. Her research has made important contributions to our understanding of pre-modern Chinese society in many respects, especially the roles played by gender and cultural memory. Professor Ebrey has also done much to expand knowledge about China beyond the ranks of professional historians. Through her textbooks and other writings for a broad audience, she has shaped how a generation learns about China. During her stay in Germany, she plans to complete her second monograph on the Song emperor Huizong, an outstanding ruler and the example par excellance of the artist, collector, and patron of the arts in China. Professor Ebrey is hosted by Professor Dr. Reinhard Emmerich at the Institute for Sinology and East Asian Studies at the University of Muenster. |
