Nominator's project description

Professor Kitcher is among the most eminent and most widely read philosophers of science of our time. He has made outstanding contributions to the theory of scientific explanation, scientific realism and the philosophy of biology. In his more recent research he has conducted a painstaking analysis of the relationship between science and society. During his Humboldt year in Germany he applies central themes from classical Pragmatism (particularly Dewey's) to contemporary issues about the relations between science and other social institutions (religion, education, our economic arrangements).
