Nominator's project description

Professor Zyss is internationally recognised as a world-leading expert in the trans-disciplinary field of nonlinear optical polymers, where his deep physical insight has led to many ground-breaking innovations. He is also a very successful scientific collaborator, working on an international scale in Europe, the USA, Korea and Israel. During his stay in Germany he plans to explore the use of “holey” photonic crystal fibre as a template for devices based on microstructured nonlinear optical polymers, as a vehicle for new types of surface-plasmon device and as the basis for a fully fiberized optical patch clamp with applications in medicine.
