Nominator's project description
Professor Calma is an internationally renowned expert on ancient and medieval philosophy. His editions of forgotten texts as well as his new approach to the history of metaphysics have received worldwide recognition. Professor Calma has discovered numerous previously unknown commentaries on the Arabic Liber de causis. Furthermore he was able to prove the existence of a continuous tradition of Greek and Islamic Neoplatonism, spanning from the 12th to the 16th century. During his stay in Germany, he will investigate how philosophy was influenced by this newly discovered tradition in the respective centuries. |
