Nominator's project description
| Professor Ralph G. Nuzzo is an interdisciplinary scientist whose research has been critically recognized in fields of interest spanning the physical and biological sciences, engineering and technology. In 1983 Professor Nuzzo prepared and thoroughly characterized the first thiol-based self assembled monolayers (SAMs). Today, thiol SAMs serve as platforms for nanotechnology and over 20.000 scientific papers have been published on this subject. SAMs also play a crucial role in interfacial systems chemistry, IFSC, a new name for hierarchical and highly complex chemical processes and molecular architectures at interfaces. During his stay at Bielefeld University and at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Professor Nuzzo will further promote IFSC using new developments from his laboratory. |
