Nominator's project description
| Professor Roger David Blandford is honoured for the Blandford-Znajek Mechanism describing a way of extracting energy from rapidly rotating black holes. His papers on gravitational lensing, black hole astrophysics, neutron star physics and cosmology made him one of the most well known theoretical astrophysicists on the globe. In Germany he continues to study on the physics of gamma-ray sources connected with dark matter annihilation and energy release in vicinity of rapidly rotating black holes and strongly magnetized neutron stars |
