Nominator's project description

Professor Hamermesh is a leading expert in the field of labour economics, including labor demand, social programs, discrimination and the timing of economic activities. He is well-known for his reference text on labor demand and for research on dynamic adjustment of employment by firms. Recent work on the economic role of subjective beauty has attracted considerable academic and popular attention. During his research visits he will extend his analyses of cyclical variations in time use to focus more finely on their determinants and on relevant issues of measuring work time and productivity over the business cycle.
