Nominator's project description

Professor Ciechanover from the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, Israel Professor Ciechanover is one of the founding fathers of the field of ubiquitin-mediated protein degradation. For his discovery of the ubiquitin proteolytic system Professor Ciechanover, together with his colleagues Avram Hershko and Irwin Rose, has been awarded the 2004 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. In Germany Professor Ciechanover is continuing his research on the ubiquitin-system and plans a Lecture Tour "The ubiquitin-proteasome pathway: on protein death and cell life" with accompanying scientific visits to the Universities of Cologne, Freiburg, Munich, Heidelberg, Konstanz and Berlin. Professor Ciechanover is hosted by Professor Sommer at the Max DelbrückCenter for Molecular Medicine in Berlin.
