Nominator's project description

Professor Trentmann is an international authority in the history of trading regimes and in the global history of consumption in all its economic, social and cultural aspects. His work on free trade in the nineteenth century has been one of the most influential contributions to the economic and social history of modern Britain whereas his magisterial book on consumption has synthesized the field and opened up new vistas for future research. In Germany he will advance and complete his new research project on the relationship between morals and economics in the international economic policies of the twentieth century.
