Nominator's project description
| Professor Gabbiani is a leading scientist in the field of computational neuroscience and the neurophysiology of insects. He is internationally renowed for analyzing the neural release mechanism of the escape response in grasshoppers, combining theory and experiment in a unique way. This led to the discovery of the mechanisms by which individual nerve cells perform some principle arithmetic operations, for example a multiplication of incoming signals. During his stay in Germany, he intends to study the neural circuit underlying motion vision in flies. |
