Nominator's project description
| Professor Hall is a leading UK classicist. Her important studies on the reception of ancient drama have made significant contributions to a new understanding of the production and dissemination of theatre in Mediterranean antiquity. The traditional paradigm treated Athens as the almost exclusive centre of Greek theatrical activity and the period of creativity as ending with the "classical" period. Professor Hall's research has shown the pivotal position of postclassical
internationalisation of theatre throughout the mediterranean world. Her pivotal research synthesises literary, historical, epigraphic, artistic and archaeological evidence to create a history of Greek theatre beyond the classical world, both in time and in place - including ancient Georgia.
