Nominator's project description

Professor Wachs is one of the leading figures in American catalysis science. During his dual career in industry and academia he has continuously worked on the conceptual challenges of catalysis. In this capacity he pioneered the use of RAMAN spectroscopy as an in-situ tool investigating working catalysts. During his stay in Germany he will complement results from this technique with corresponding experiments performed at the Fritz-Haber-Institute using in-situ methods.
