Nominator's project description
| Professor Stein is a world-leading seismologist. He pioneered attempts to quantify global rates of tectonic plate motion. Subsequently, he was among the leaders of efforts to use GPS geodesy in tectonic analyses. Professor Stein has made major contributions to the understanding of seismic hazard, most recently in plate interiors, branching out into societal, economic and engineering aspects of the problem. In Germany he continues his research on deformation within plates. |
