Nominator's project description

Professor Loerting is well known internationally for his outstanding research on the physics of crystalline and glass forming ice under extreme conditions, the physical chemistry of the upper atmosphere, and the control of fast chemical reactions at very low temperatures. He unraveled how the freezing of pollutants on ice particles in polar stratospheric clouds affects the formation of ozone holes and discovered new phases of ice and ice-like materials. During his stay in Germany he will apply new experimental techniques to exotic ices of atmospheric and extraterrestrial relevance. Professor Dr. Thomas Loerting is hosted by Professor Dr. Roland Böhmer at the Technische Universität Dortmund.
