Nominator's project description
Professor Simon is an international authority in the study of consumer culture and politics. His most recent books explore the complexity of an iconic American place, Atlantic City, and an iconic American brand, Starbucks. Both studies show how everyday acts of consumption translate into complex political acts in a global world. In Germany, Professor Simon will continue his current research on "The Age of Cheap", an exploration of how the term cheap has become the single most important organizing idea of American society. |
