Nominator's project description

Professor Goodman is a world-leading field biologist. For nearly three decades, he has dedicated his research to aspects of the origin, evolution and ecology of birds and mammals on Madagascar, as well as different pedagogic activities to advance science on the island for Malagasy scientists, particularly graduate students. He and his colleagues have conducted extensive biological surveys in remote areas of the island and the associated data and collected materials have considerably advanced an array of questions and helped to advance conservation programmes. In Germany, he will work on the seasonality of viral infection in flying foxes from Madagascar and their potential for infections of other mammals.
