Nominator's project description
| Professor Woolf is one of the leading historians of the Roman Empire. In a large number of studies he has fruitfully developed different bodies of social, archaeological, and literary theories for a better understanding of the central and peripheral developments of the vast areas of Roman domination. He has successfully analyzed ancient religion in a comparative perspective of empires. In Germany he concentrates on the individual usage of space and the appropriation of religious practices in sanctuaries throughout the Roman world. Professor Woolfs host is Professor Joerg Ruepke of Max-Weber-Kolleg at the University of Erfurt. |
