Nominator's project description

Professor Kumari is a leading authority on the cognitive disturbances that are a primary cause of disability and dysfunction in the lives of those suffering from severe mental illness that impacts 2-4% of the world's population. Finding ways to reduce those deficits with novel drug therapies is the most promising approach for improving the lives of patients with disorders like schizophrenia, and Professor Kumari is a world leader in testing these new treatment strategies. In her stay at the University of Bonn, Professor Kumari will investigate the role of cognitive deficits as risk factors for schizophrenia, so as to determine how to best evaluate and reduce illness vulnerability.
