Nominator's project description

Prof. Ji works in many fields of particle physics. He is very well known for, amongst others, the invention of "Generalized Parton Distributions" and his contributions to identify the origin of "Single Spin Asymmetries". Both allow to extract fundamental properties of particles from experiments in a stringent, unambiguous manner and motivate many recent experimental efforts. He also enabled the new large Chinese underground experiment "PandaX" and proposed a new approach to lattice QCD, helping to solve QCD problems using high performance computers like Tianhe II. During his time in Germany, Professor Ji and Professor Schäfer will collaborate primarily on the lastmentioned topic.
