Nominator's project description

Professor Christina von Hodenberg from Queen Mary University of London, United Kingdom of Great Britain Professor von Hodenberg is well known internationally for her outstanding research in social and cultural history. She has made important contributions to our understanding of changes in Germany's public sphere throughout the 19th and 20th century. Professor von Hodenberg's most recent book focused on the impact of mass media - especially television - on the cultural revolution of the Sixties in Germany, Great Britain and America. During her stay in Germany, she intends to explore the changing patterns of intergenerational kin assistance in Germany since 1949. She is especially interested in how the rise of the welfare state, the emancipation of women, and the increasing marketisation of society impacted on kinship relations.
