Nominator's project description

Professor Sondhi's work has played an important role in defining and advancing a number of modern fields in condensed matter theory, including the currently exceptionally active field of 'topological condensed matter physics'. There, his discoveries include the demonstration of the existence of two new types of emergent particles, the Skyrmion in quantum Hall physics and magnetic monopoles in spin ice materials. In addition, Professor Sondhi has broadly contributed to topics as varied as superconductivity and the physics of disordered systems. During his stay in Germany, Professor Sondhi plans to push ahead research in the field of topological magnetic phases and to include new developments such as the study of many-body localization to his portfolio.
