Nominator's project description
| Professor De Jong is well known internationally for her outstanding research in the history and political theology of the early middle ages. Professor De Jong combines a large variety of methods ranging from scriptural exegesis to ritual analysis to understand contemporary perceptions of Carolingian politics, challenging the still pervasive recourse to anachronistic categories of Church and State. During her stay in Germany, she intends to elaborate on classical and biblical imagery used to encrypt statements in ninth-century political debate, but also, more generally, on the notion of the public sphere and on the relation between law and religion in the Carolingian Empire. |
