Nominator's project description

Professor Dr. Juan Alvaro Echeverri from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, Amazonia Campus, Colombia Professor Echeverri is an international authority in the study of social anthropology with a cross-disciplinary focus on ethnolinguistics, literature, and natural sciences. He has made outstanding contributions to a theory of verbal and poetic genres in Amerindian languages. He also developed innovative studies on symbolic ecology combined with ethnobotanic research in order to understand how local people engage with their natural environment. In Germany, Professor Echeverri will conduct research on "Transamazonian knowledges between the local and the global: the materiality of ethnography, Amerindian literatures and memories". Professor Echeverri is hosted by Professor Susanne Klengel at Freie Universität Berlin and by Dr. Barbara Göbel at the Ibero-Amerikanisches Institut (Berlin)
