Nominator's project description

Professor Baines is well-known internationally for her outstanding research on the chemistry of low valent main group compounds. She has made several significant contributions to the field including ithe synthesis of the first stable germasilenes, NHC-stabilized germylenes and germanium dictations. Most recently, she has provided insight into the chemistry of Si- and Ge (100) reconstructed surfaces by performing comparative studies with chemistry of molecular disilenes and digermenes. During her stay in Germany, she intends to develop a deeper understanding of the mechanisms of the transformations of these novel compounds.
