Nominator's project description
Sumathi Ramaswamy is an internationally recognised cultural historian, whose research fields largely concern South Asia and the British Empire, with foci on visual studies, the history of cartography and gender studies. Since 2006, she collaborates with colleagues in Heidelberg, exploring visuality, history and digital humanities. In the context of the award, the main pillar of the project will be research conducted with sinologist Professor Barbara Mittler. They explore the manifold global circulations of ‚Mahatma’ Gandhi and party leader Mao over time and space. |
