Nominator's project description

Professor Goldberg is one of the leading representatives of construction grammar, a cognitive theory of language that investigates how languages are learnt and how linguistic knowledge is stored and processed in the brain. Her research, which combines linguistics and psychology, focuses on the role of generalizations and linguistic creativity. In Germany, Professor Goldberg focuses on the development of a model that combines the insights of her theory of generalized argument structure constructions with the findings of empirical valency theory that stresses the role of item-specific knowledge.
