Nominator's project description

Dr. Shoai's research interest is to study the photophysics of disordered semiconductors for use in photonic devices such as organic solar cells and photodetectors. She employs various optical spectroscopic techniques with focus on time-resolved pump-probe spectroscopy, from femtosecond to second time scales combined with steady state techniques to elucidate the relationship between device property and molecular structure of disordered semiconductors. Dr. Shoai's recent research highlights from her postdocs at Imperial College London and University of Queenland include exploring charge photogeneration mechanisms in organic solar cells and the role of charge transfer states, and explaining why some organic semiconductors allow for substantially thicker active layers, a highly desirable trait for future commercialization. In Potsdam, she will employ high resolution techniques to study free charge recombination – a topic of uppermost importance for future device development, but also of highest relevance for the comprehensive understanding of charge carrier dynamics in disordered semiconductors.
