Nominator's project description

Professor Dudareva is an international authority in plant secondary metabolism, particularly in the area of floral scents. She has made important contributions to molecular mechanisms underpinning plant volatile compound production. Her discovery of a microbial-like phenylalanine biosynthesis route in plants shows that active transport is likely required for transporting volatiles from plant cells to the atmosphere. During her stay in Germany, she will further investigate the trafficking of volatile plant metabolites.
