Nominator's project description

Professor Campbell is a pioneer in the growing field of Indian Ocean Studies. He has contributed major new insights to the fields of Malagasy history, slavery studies and the general history of the Indian Ocean World. During his stay in Germany, he intends to focus his research on the rise of an Indian Ocean World global economy in the context of human-environment interaction. This will be done against the background of a large-scale investigation of human-environment interaction as one of the major catalysts for historical change, and with a view to enhance the interdisciplinary collaboration between history and social anthropology.
