Nominator's project description

Professor Ballaré is a world authority on how light affects plant growth and development in relation to other plants. He demonstrated that the spectrum of light detected by plants informs them about the proximity of neighbors and stimulates their growth to avoid being shaded. In a series of pioneering experiments, Professor Ballaré elucidated the genes, proteins and metabolites involved in this response. In Germany, he will explore, how light affects plant responses to another type of adversary, insect herbivores.
