Nominator's project description
| Dialetheism, the theory saying that some propositions are both true and false, challenges time-honoured philosophical and logical orthodoxy as it denies the Law of Non-Contradiction, a principle already advocated by Aristotle. For about 40 years, dialetheism has been used to motivate a certain kind of non-classical logics, so-called paraconsistent logics, which aim at modelling inconsistency-tolerant reasoning. However, not all paraconsistent logicians are dialetheists. Dr. Omori has made many important contributions to the investigation of various paraconsistent and other non-classical logics. One goal of his project is to obtain a systematic understanding of paraconsistent logics and to deepen our understanding of less known systems of that type. A second aim is to develop and advance dialetheism through dialetheic theories by making use of formal logic. This part of the project involves examining the dialetheic positions in discussions of various philosophical problems, both in the Western and the Eastern tradition. |
